Part two of our conversation with Kim Chernecki, one of Canada’s leading executive entrepreneur business coaches to get a take on the exec gig economy.

Thanks again for joining us Kim! Following our discussion last week, let's chat more about how you help executives get in front of big corporate companies in Canada.

I’ve observed that although executives have deep experience and expertise working in corporate and typically have large networks, they have never had to sell themselves and their own services before and can feel uncomfortable doing so.

My specialty is helping executives who are transitioning (or have transitioned) out of corporate positions, define and build their consulting business and secure a roster of lucrative corporate clients and a sustainable income. I have a proven process that delivers practical tips needed to tap into Canada’s corporate consulting marketplace, an arena that 90% of independent consultants/ freelancers are not even aware of.

What advice would you give to corporate executives who are just starting down the consultant/freelance gig economy path?

As an entrepreneur, you have the opportunity to create the business and life you want – so make sure it’s aligned with who you are. Make sure you’re doing what you love, what you’re passionate about, that it has purpose and meaning for you, and is aligned to what you’re greatest at and where you can deliver the biggest impact.

I recommend getting clear on what you want to build and where you want to fit in the consulting landscape. There is a range of options available such as building your own boutique consulting firm, becoming a partner or a Subject Matter Expert within a firm, solo-consulting or a blended approach. It will serve you to know what success looks like for you so you can plan accordingly and execute with intention.

There will inevitably be ups and downs along the journey as well as peaks and valleys, especially in the early stages. Be sure to have a solid support system in place and surround yourself with like-minded friends and colleagues who you can share challenges with and provide moral support.
